I loved how that gangbanger's mother slaps Murtaugh at the funeral. Murtaugh should've said, "I'm sorry your son was a thug, I'm sorry he shot at me and I'm sorry I didn't let him kill me and my partner." Such BS. I never understood how Murtaugh felt guilty. The guy saw Murtaugh and heard him. You're not going to tell me he didn't know who he was. And regardless of him even knowing Roger, he shot at police officers. He asked for it.

...and the kid's mother is grieving her own loss. She was wrong to attack Roger but she's is hurt and angry over losing her son. She lashed out at the person she (at the time) held responsible. Fortunately, this was somewhat mitigated by the father's clearer level of thinking.

Yes. Her slapping Roger was understandable, if misguided. She knows in her heart that he was justified. Yet as a parent who lost a child, she was suffering the horrible, intense grief that such an experience brings.

That scene reminded me of the scene in JAWS where the grieving mother of the boy eaten by the shark also slaps Chief Brody.

I remember in the movie Taken 2, Liam Neeson is captured by the father of one of his daughter's kidnappers and the guy wants him dead for killing his son. Liam tells him, "I killed your son because he kidnapped my daughter." The guy's response is slapping Liam and yelling, "I don't care what he did!" Darryl's mother is almost as bad. Roger's supposed to apologize for shooting someone that was armed with a freakin' machinegun and trying to kill him? What a crock.
shareThe audience knew exactly what happened with the shooting but the mother would probably not know all of those details. Her perspective would be that Roger killed her son. She wouldn't necessarily know that Darrell was shooting at the police and Roger was in danger of being shot by Darrell.
