Stephen King is an idiot for making this movie.....
he's made some great stuff in the past (green mile, shawshank redemption). how far the mighty have fallen.
sharehe's made some great stuff in the past (green mile, shawshank redemption). how far the mighty have fallen.
shareI don't know how far the mighty have fallen, but Stephen King had nothing to do with this movie except making a short story that was in no way connected to the movie. He even sued the producers of this movie to remove his name from the credits.
shareLol King doesn't make all [his] movies; he writes novels, sells the rights to his work and sometimes appears in them, but usually someone else takes his good idea and screws them up bigtime on the screen, save for a few exceptions. King, however, has no right complaining about this as he screwed his own movie versions up beyond belief. And IMO Kubrick did far better with (and I'm glad he changed aspects of) The Shining. King's version was lame ass.
shareStanley Kubrick is a freak, Über-perve. The lawnmower man sucks. I thought Stephen King's The shining was better than the original, but the kid in it was awful. Move Jack Nicholson and the kid into SK's, and it would have been best.
shareKubrick was not a perve at all. This is a total misconception that some still buy into. He was a freak however because of his savant-like talent. Steven King's movie version of "The Shining" isn't even navel lint compared to Kubrick's masterpiece. There is a reason Kubrick's movies have stood the test of time and been the subject of so many discussions. You clearly don't get it Frostrose.
shareKubrick makes good looking movies, no denying that. He's also great with atmosphere.
His storytelling, pacing, etc... However, are flawed, dubious, and overrated.

Yeah, you are right, crazy movies are stupid and should be removed from reality
Seriously, what's with people being against crazy movies? Look at David Cronenberg for example. His movies are really beautiful-looking with marvelous story-telling (or in other cases, just an impressive exploriation of the human mind, such as Naked Lunch) and acting, but people dismiss him just because of the weird themes he uses. I sure do prefer crazy movies to the bland generic action movies we get nowadays.
>His storytelling, pacing, etc... However, are flawed, dubious, and overrated.<
Agree for the most part. "2001: ASO" brought to mind Vincent Bugliosi's apt phrase in "Helter-Skelter", 'Toscanini of tedium'. That was the most boring film I have ever had the displeasure of watching.
OTOH, "Paths of Glory" and "Dr. Strangelove" were great.
FWIW, I didn't care for "The Shining" either. I m talking about the Kubrick and Garris versions, and the novel. The story just did not appeal to me.
yeah, fallen...upwards. green mile was made a faaaair while after lawnmower man.

Did the story have the same title? If not, what was it? I'm all curious now...

Yes the King short story had the same title, and was part of the collection "Night Shift." Although as others said, it has virtually (pun intended) nothing to do with the 1992 feature film "The Lawnmower Man"
As for the Jimbo that started this thread and now appears to be hiding his shame (thank God) there is this:
"The film's original script, written by director Brett Leonard and producer Gimel Everett, was titled Cyber God and had nothing to do with Stephen King. New Line held the film rights to Stephen King's short story, and decided to combine Cyber God with some very minor elements of King's story. The resulting film, originally titled Stephen King's The Lawnmower Man, differed so much from the source material that King sued the filmmakers to remove his name from the title. After two court rulings in King's favor, New Line still did not comply and initially released the home video version as Stephen King's The Lawnmower Man. A third ruling granted the author $10,000 per day in compensation and all profits derived from sales until his name was removed.[1] On King's official web-page, it is not listed among the films based on his work."
Highlight: "nothing to do with Stephen King"
Side note, "An earlier short film, also titled The Lawnmower Man and a more faithful adaptation of the short story directed by Jim Gonis dates to 1987."
Thank you! I think we have The Night Shift around here somewhere. I'll have to dig it out and read it..
