The girl who played Jessie Joy, Lexi Randall, did a wonderful job, that girl is a great actress, i think she was the best actress on that movie, she just played her role very well, i also saw her on the movie "the war" with elijah wood and they did a wonderful job also congratulations for lexi randall, the greatest child actress on that movie.

Really, I found her acting to be overbearing and she overacts.

I thought most of the other young cast did well, but 1 other one did overact.

She was amazing. She had me crying with her when she confronts her mom. First her strong willed attitude, then the breakdown. OMG! She should have won an award. That kind of real raw emotion is hard to train a perfectly normal healthy happy 12 year old to portray. She was a gifted child actress who should have went on to star in a great many things.
I saw this movie when I was about 11 years old and it stuck with me. I am now 29 and just recently re-watched it and the FIRST thing that came to mind was how amazing "Jessie's" acting was!
I agree with you. Sally Struthers and Sarah Jessica Parker are terrific in this movie (one of my favorite made-for-television films of all time), but it's Lexi Randall who steals the film with her heart-wrenching performance. She's also great in the Sarah, Plain and Tall films and in her guest-starring role on Designing Women.
