Macauley was made to do this film by his father who was known to be abusive and was stealing his money. Im pretty sure Macauley wasnt even interested in filming this- and shortly after he gave up on acting.. for the timebeing anyway (i dont think he came back till adulthood.. but even then its periodically. He mostly keeps out of the spotlight now, unless its on his own terms, like through his social media/podcasts).

shareYou have that mixed up. Kit Culkin would not allow Macauley to sign up for this film unless the producers locked in the contract for Good Son. He was concerned that he would be typecast. The producers meanwhile were desperate to get filming Home Alone 2 and tried to lock him in. It also didn't help that afterwards Kit was constantly on set trying to "improve" things. As a result, Macaulay was being pulled in several directions at once and it took its toll on him.
