shareas the title says, did tommy riley's dad die? and did tommys mexican boxer friend die?
shareDon't know about tommy's dad, but pretty sure his friend died.
shareTom`s Father probably wasnt killed because Tom one the finally match against Jimmy Horn who bought and was holding his fathers debts. As far as his friend who was brain dead he was dead.
I've got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me
john seda's character was cuban, not mexican and yes he dies.
shareActually Horn wasn't holding his father's debts; he just made the story up to entrap Tommy into fighting for him.

Do you mean because he beat up Horn and you are unsure of Horn held up to his end of the bargain?
That's actually a decent question. Horn didn't exactly seem like the most trustworthy guy, so I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't hold up his end of the bargain.
After that beatdown that Horn took in front of all those people i don't really think he had any choice in the matter. He was basically destroyed in the end..

First off, Tommy's friend Romano wasn't Mexican..he was Cuban! I'm not sure how you missed that because Romano talks about Cuba several times during the movie. The film ends with Romano in critical condition in the hospital. It is never stated that he dies, but rather that he was clinically 'brain dead' after the savage beating he took from that gorilla. And Tommy's father certainly wasn't dead; he had simply gone away for a month long business trip. i think he was an on the road salesman of some sort. The corrupt promoters took advantage of his absence to entrap Tommy with some lies about his dad being in debt to them.

You don't think the term "gorilla" is an appropriate comparison? Should we compare that character to a swan perhaps? Or maybe a gazelle? The guy was a violent animal, and apart from the fact that he wore clothing, he displayed NO other human traits. If you are thinking it is some racial slur, you are wrong..his skin color has nothing to do with the gorilla comparison. But to be more politically correct, let's just call him a pig..is that better? Pigs are pink.

Dude, you knew exactly what you were doing with that "gorilla" bullsh*t. You couldn't even play dumb about it properly.
shareTommy's dad doesn't die. He told Tommy he would be back home a few weeks later, so the viewer assumes after Tommy ended his "contract" with Horn and boxing, he was free to go.
(It is never really known for sure whether Horn "bought the debts", or, whether that was a story simply made up by Horn to goad Tommy into fighting for him. Horn could have possibly bought some other debts owed by Tommy's dad - or as some suggested - that could have just been a clever storyline. Horn did make reference that Tommy's dad owed upwards of 15k, that PROBABLY all wasn't paid off, that is why Tommy had to fight 4-5 fights to pay off that debt that Horn had said he bought. Also, all Tommy had to do was ask his dad flat out if he owed any more debts, I assume.
As for Romano, we assume he either dies or remains brain dead in the county hospital until he eventually passes or next of kin removes him from life-support. His roommate (the older black guy) stated something to Tommy when he walked in that "he was brain-dead.."
I don't think his dad dies. Romano, sadly does
shareYo! He's Cuban, B!
