Very visual

Coppola is going all out on the visual transitions and effects here, especially shadows. Not bad at all, but very arty.

Then again, I do like the mournful romance music between Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder.

But it's fun! Ridiculous, but fun.

When I posted, I only saw the first half of the movie. But now I've seen the whole thing, after 29 years between this and my first viewing when it came out, I find I like it.

Besides, Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing is absolutely hilarious with his deadpan matter-of-fact yet tactless lines, like "we're going to drive a stake through her heart and cut off her head!"

Yeah, Hopkins was a hoot, fhe was the one actor who realized there was nothing to take seriously here.

This movie is such an odd mix of the ridiculous and the nearly sublime, I mean Keanu's Brit accent is so awful that so many of his scenes are ludicrous, but the scene where he's molested by Dracula's wives is really kind of stunning! Oldman takes it seriously but is still so over the top that he's almost ridiculous but not quite, the costumes are insane, well, it all adds up to a film that's unique and still very watchable. I saw it again a few weeks ago on Youtube, it's still fun.

The OST, sets, costumes and practical effects are outstanding.

It's visually and audibly a great film. The performances are a bit all over the place. Very over the top. But that just adds to the charm of it.
