The castle design was v good
It was crazy like it was born from the ground. First hour of this film is best it is not so good towards its end, a hopkins save it though.

shareDisagree on Hopkins but wholeheartedly agree on the production design - superb gothic work in that department (along with costumes, makeup and music).
shareThe castle reminded me of the huge building in Psycho.
shareI think basically everything about the design was top-level - no complaints there. All the sets and costumes and lighting and stuff is all great. This movie only loses marks for uneven performances (Gary Oldman - brilliant! Keanu Reeves - oh, my...no...) and the script trying to crowbar in the weird Mina/Dracula romance like the screenwriter is writing a shipper fanfic.
shareoh yes, the production quality and design of this film is superb; making it all the more dissapointing the things they got wrong (like as you point out the "crowbared" in painful romance between Mina and Dracula, like something out of an Ann Rice or later Twilight novel. And then throw in some reincarnation nonsense (because why not, not like reincarnation has nothing to do with christian mythology, right? right?); as you said super fanfic type of writing there. I find it insulting that they call this film "Bram Stoker's" when the author's themes were so undermined it was basically the antithesis of his intent.
I think I would like this movie just fine if they just changed the damn name to "Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula".
