how did columbia make this?

I thought universal had the rights to Drac.
How was this movie made with another stuido?

It's public domain; anyone that wants to can make a Dracula movie

They only own the rights to the traditional 1930s/40s look of their monsters (e.g. Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein). It's also why there aren't many dinosaur movies, they own the look of the "reptile" look the dinosaurs have in Jurassic Park.

Same thing with the 1994 version of Frankenstein, which was made by Tristar rather than Universal.

On a side note, both Columbia (who made the 1992 film of Dracula) and Tristar (who made the 1994 film of Frankenstein) are divisions of Sony Pictures.

Sounds like Columbia might be getting sued by Universal if they see this post
