Do people actually like this?

I mean that 7.5 rating is a joke right? This movie is so unintentionally funny, it should actually be considered a comedy.

Oh good. A troll.

Reeves was horrible, Ryder was OK, I thought everything else was amazing (especially Hopkins).

Reeves in this movie was simply painful to watch. One of the worst performances ever. I just can't figure how Cappola even decided to hire him. It was one of the very few occasions when an actor was so bad that it actually distracted me from the rest of the movie. I love pretty much every scenes... When he wasn't there.

I know my criticism is harsh but man... How the fuck do producers even want to hire this guy. He was okay in The Matrix... And that's about it.

reply

I really don't like it. It's my least favourite of all the big, successful Dracula adaptations.

reply

It was *beep* terrible, can't believe people still talk about this movie. Deserves a rating under 3 imo. Classic case of pretentious film student bandwagon hopping.

reply

Yeah, my aunt has been praising this movie for years, and has been hounding me to watch it. I finally decide to bite the bullet and give it a watch, and made it about 30 minutes in before giving up. I can't believe Francis Ford Coppola was capable of directing such poor performances :(

reply

So your aunt made you watch it?

reply

...and if you stopped after 30 minutes, you didn't actually watch the movie.

reply

What did you find funny? unintentionally or otherwise.

reply

The movie is a near miss for me. There are a lot of good elements, but quite a significant amount of bad ones too. I give it a 5.9/10 around, so it's close but no cigar for me.

I haven't seen the 1979 Dracula yet, but I want to. I saw the 1931 one, and thought it was quite better than this one though.

reply

I give it a 5.9/10

I think it's closer to 5.935

reply

Yes. We liked it. Scared the hell out of me. If I was going to mention the weakest link I would say, Keanu Reeves.

reply

I'm with you OP. After watching this film having heard praise about it being amazing I was shocked. Did they mean amazingly hilarious? Nope!

reply

It was bad. Almost unwatchable. I've being looking forward to seeing this for a while but Oldman's performance, and the visuals and make-up weren't enough to make up for it's huge flaws.

It was boring, Antony Hopkins was pure ham, Winona Ryder was miscast, and Keanu Reeves was a joke.

It was like a parody that didn't know it.

reply

You're not alone, I watched it for the first time recently and couldn't believe it had such high praise. It has the worst acting I've ever seen in a major film, including from Oldman (great actor but I wasn't feeling him in this one at all.)

reply

I wouldn't call the OP a troll just for expressing an opinion. I liked BSD, but it was not my favorite Dracula film.

reply

Of course you would like it "Gary O." You played the Dracula character in this one. You're not fooling anyone by abbreviating your last name - Gary Oldman!

reply

Amusing, but no; I am not Gary Oldman. I'm not good-looking enough. If you're curious about who I am, you can find out on the board for The Stand, the 1994 mini-series from ABC. I am one of the more frequent posters there.
