Did most people want another macho, exciting, gung-ho action-adventure fest?

With a bunch of explosions and intense gun battles in the vein of its predecessor Aliens? I wonder if that was another gripe that people had with Alien 3, since Aliens is generally considered to be the most popular (or "mainstream accessible") of the Ripley-verse movies.

reply

Even though I prefer by far the first two installements, I too don't understand all the hate for it. All right yes it drags on here and there... but there is a more psychological aspect more present than in the first two movies.

Alien 4 on another hand.....

reply

Beautiful, beautiful child, so beautiful - "Brad Dourif making kissy faces". ROFLMAO.

reply

What the fuck are you about...?

reply

You mentioned Alien 4 the masterpiece!!!

reply

My brother thinks the same as you do. I respectfully disagree.

reply

the hate for this film is just fanboy mob think, spearheaded by its worthless sack of shit director.

reply

I think people wanted Ripley, Hicks and Newt to go and become the Alien fighting family

I can't tell if this is a serious response or not...........

reply

> Of course none of it compares to Prometheus, which only the enlightened few can see the genius in.

The reasoning of someone who likes a really terrible movie ... mere mortals cannot see the genius of it. ;-)

reply

low end of the autism spectrum...DUUUUH.

reply

agreed. it did come to a halt. I quite enjoyed all the Alien movies.

reply

No we did not.

Hicks / the guy from T1 can't lead an action movie.
That's why T2 is superior.

As for Newt, she was good enough for one movie.
Anything more than that would've turned it into a family comedy adventure.

reply

Correct ,
but about 50% of the threads here are along the lines of "Alien 3 is shit because Hicks & Newt are dead"

reply

50% of the posters here can't tell their right from left.

reply

Nah, I think that is over thinking it. I think people hated this one because Ripley was bald and not, like, hot

reply

Ripley was never hot. See Galaxy Quest (1999) and be ready admire smokin' hot Sigourney Weaver.

reply

she had a surprising hot body in the first film

reply

Bald Ripley is the only Ripley that was remotely hot.

The regular Sigourney Weaver has as much sex appeal as Whoopi Goldberg.

reply

She was quite hot in Ghostbusters, but they did put tons of makeup on her in that one.

reply

I think people wanted the movie that could have been. I mean you think about the surviving crew of Alien 2 crashlanded on a prison planet and you have a real recipe for thriller. Could have capped off Alien as one of the great all time trilogies.

reply

so the same , but with Hick & Newt alive?

reply

That would have been a start. Killing these beloved characters off in such an offhand way really hurt Alien 3.

reply

Yeah but maybe Mr Been was busy in the Abyss, or climbing K2 or something

reply

Then reschedule filming!

reply

Aliens is just a better movie.

This wasn't bad, it just didn't measure up to Aliens, or Alien for that matter, which was a rather slow paced, atmospheric film for the most part.

reply

I sure did. I remember seeing this in the movie theaters being bored out of my skull and really angry that this was so awful. I know I saw it, but I have no recall of what it was about, or of it being interesting, entertaining or even having decent special effects. I just act like it never existed.

reply

Alien 3 is easily better than Aliens. If I wanted to watch a video game I'd just play one.
