Why is Jafar so emaciated?

So I saw this movie for the first time as an adult and what I didn't notice as a kid is how damn twiggy Jafar is. Is there a reason someone so powerful and rich has a holocaust survivor diet? Look how fat the Sultan is.

No idea that is a question for the folks at Disney for them to answer

That's just his design. An "emaciated" look is often popular for bad guys. It makes them look more evil perhaps?

Ursula, Gaston and Ratcliffe are all pretty chunky.

And?

reply

You said it was popular for villains, but there are many cases where it isn't used, so Jafar's thinness seems more chosen for him particularly than part of a general trend.

The unused Jafar song Why Me opens with "In my formative and hungry years..." which suggests he grew up with little food, that may explain his scrawniness.

And saying that an emaciated look is popular for villains suggests that they're never fat or that there aren't other popular looks?

reply

Yes, sort of, because the number of characters isn't big enough for multiple trends to be popular at the same time.

Uhm no, not at all.

"At the same time"? I wasn't talking about the same time.

reply

So why do you think Jafar is thin?

Gaston? He's supposed to be muscular, not fat...
