Is there a strangling scene in this one?

I saw it about 10, 12 years ago and I want to check if it's the movie I have in mind. One thing I remember clearly is someone tied up and then strangled. Is it in this version?

reply

yes there is a scene where two or three people are tied to posts and then strangled.

Thanks!

and not only strangled. burned too. some of them alive.

reply

Its the "garrote". The famous spanish execution device. Pretty horrible scene....

reply

Yes, it shocked me when I first watched it, this is why I remember it after all these years. I was about 6 years old and I couldn't get it out of my head for days.

The strangling occurs within he context of the Inquisition persecuting the Jews of Spain. Those who agree to convert to Catholicism are given a quick death by strangulation. Those who hold to their Jewish faith are burned.

reply

The main victims of the inquisition were "conversos" ie people from Jewish families who had already converted to catholicism [either after the Alhambra Decree or many decades earlier in mass forced conversions].

I think there were two strangling scenes, one towards the beginning with the Inquisition, and one in the New World after CC's second voyage, I think there was a rebellion of sorts from the Spanish settlers, or they instigated an attack on the natives against CC's orders.
