Why did USA cancel this when they did?

Yeah, they should have let it say with syndication than moving to a network. I think Renegade could make a great theatrical film franchise, if they rebooted. If they continued from the series, that might make new comers confused due the back-story of the series, especially since I don't see the last two seasons coming to DVD.

When it went to the USA Network from syndication the local stations had to get another syndicated series to replace it, and they had legal and contractual obligations to the series they used to replace "Renegade" when it picked up by USA Network.

I'm sure NBC would have liked to get "Baywatch" back after they canceled it and it became another global hit in syndication. There is usually more to these deals behind the scenes than we're told and USA canceled the series but may have had one of those options of first right of refusal on a series.

Networks have canceled series and brought them back, "Jericho" and "Cagney and Lacey" come to mind and they came back on the same network that canceled them CBS. We'll never know, if Mr. Cannell were still alive he would be the best source to ask, he was really good friends with a radio talk show host where I live and he always told good behind the scene stories about his series as well as talking about books he'd written.

I loved the show and still pop in a dvd from time to time. However, I think the show ran its course. For one thing Lorenzo Lamas was wearing those horrible hair extensions in the final season. I couldnt stand that anymore. Also, they replaced it with Pacific Blue which was a great show as well.


We used to make sh-t in this country. Build sh-t. Now we put our hands in the next guys pocket.

I heard that the last season, the ratings were so high, that the network felt guilt and decided to cancel the series to allow other networks to have better ratings
