where someone wants to kill Reno, but Reno modified that guy's weapon in such way to shoot backwards (so the guy actually kills himself)?

Reno did not modify other guy's gun. But there was a group of judges and district attorneys, who wanted this guy "Exiter" dead, and they used Reno. Reno was just forced to kill the guy in self defense.
And there was an episode where another bounty hunter Nathan Wayne pointed his own gun at his skull, speculating whether he picked up the right gun that morning. That was just a trick to give Reno time to knock out a robber who held a girl at gunpoint.
That doesn't sound like the scene I remember, so it was probably another TV series or movie. I definitely remember the (shot)gun fired backwards and that's how the guy killed himself.
