Guest Stars were better than some of the regulars!

Season 3.

Susan (Cheryl Pollack). She could hold her on.
Zach (Brian Bloom) He was great for Alison. It would have been interesting to see Alison with another man in a long term relationship.
Caitlin (Jasmin Guy). Ruthless. She definitely could have run D&D.
Rikki (Traci Lords). Crazy. She was indeed a needed fresh character.

They were great characters. They could have replaced the original characters in Season 5 after they left. Meagan, Coop, Taylor, were boring.

I agree that some of the guest characters should've at least returned for guest stints if not regular roles in the later seasons - Rikki and Caitlin in particular as they promised revenge. If Darren Star had stayed it wouldn't have surprised me if they returned as he had Jack Wagner (Peter) coming back towards the end of his run as a showrunner and then added him as a regular. It certainly felt that Caitlin should've followed him.

Caitlin should have come back at beginning of season 6 to make Amandas life a living hell.

That would've been great, especially with so much of the main cast being gone it would be great to return some old recurring guest characters from the past.

Personally I would've had Sydney be kidnapped by a deranged Rikki (Traci Lords) at her wedding and then sometime in early season six Rikki would've been caught and claiming Sydney "died", that way she still would've been dead to the Melrosians, but opened up for the possibility for her to return down the road instead of the car crash (though that was a great cliffhanger, I'll admit).
