I noticed that most people in sitcoms of that era never wore clothes that fit them very well.
Not suggesting that today's skinny jeans, tight shirts, ultra tailored suits that make men look like women, etc; looks good either, but back then, every guy was just swimming in their button down shirts, and their sport jackets looked two sizes too large, their pleated pants were baggy, their jeans looked sloppy.
Reiser always looked very frumpy to me in his clothing. I would never try to emulate that.
