Paul and Jaime's separation

In the two part serie finale, Mabel mentions that her parents once separated, what was that period of time? By the way, almost at the end of the last episode, we see Jaime and Paul in 1999 at their apartment having a mini wedding. Was that scene a dream scene created by Mabel suggesting what should have happened, or did that scene actually happen?

If you saw the whole last episode, you would have seen that they separeted in that episode, they looked forward to year 2021, and Paul left Jamie, but they go together at the very end. Jamie kissing Paul in the cinema. And the marriage thing, that did happend. They found out that their marriage wasn't valid, and they had to do it over again.

The kiss in the movie theatre that brought Paul and Jaime back together was an homage to the highpoint of the 3rd episode of the series, which details the event(s) of how Paul and Jaime met and fell in love.
The line Paul says to Jaime (in the movie theatre) is the same that Paul said to Jaime in her office in the 3rd episode.

OOPSY...turns out the episode from the first season I referred to ("Met Someone") was the 11th episode, not the 3rd.

Sorry 'bout that.

I am pretty sure you are describing "Met Somebody" that was the 11th episode of the 1st season.

The line Paul says to Jaime (in the movie theatre) is the same that Paul said to Jaime in her office...

In both versions, Paul turns away from Jamie but then, when he turns back, she put a hand on the side of his face and kisses him emphatically.

"Did you just kiss me?" he asks.

"No," she replies.

The dialog and her actions were the same, both times. Also, the kiss from "Met Somebody" was a flash-back, while the kiss from the finalé was a flash-forward so, chronologically, these were the first and last kisses in the story of Paul and Jamie -- like a pair of bookends, for the series.
