Uncle Phil

I have nothing against Al Brooks, but the Uncle Phil episodes were unwatchable in my opinion. He pretty much hijacked the episodes he was in.

It was Mel brooks not al brooks

As did Carol Burnett...and I don't think anyone minded....they are well respected comedians and the cast and producers were lucky to have them be a part of their show.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

I liked Carol's reaction to Jamie having a nateral birth.

Those episodes were great and Mel Brooks is s comedy legend so he was just about the only one who had a right to hijack the show.

reply

I heard that about Mel Brooks although I haven't seen anything with him before. Based on what I saw on this show I can honestly say I never want to go through that nightmare again. The guys is awful!

I'll never forget Uncle Phil and the coupons. I remember watching it before school one morning as a 9-ish year old and telling people at school about Uncle Phil.

reply

I agree. He's great in these episodes. I'm watching on now where he is arrested for coupons.

reply

I love the ending where he sings to Mabel at the end. Very sweet.

reply

Oh my God, yes! I recently rewatched the whole series and those episodes are exactly as you described them. Uncle Phil is just like a really annoying child and everyone around him was behaving like those idiot parents that encourage him.
I never watched anything with Mel Brooks and now I know to stay away.

Flash in Blackadder was a similar such character although Rowan Atkinson was able to at least stand out as well so at least there was a conflict.
