Top 5 Hank meltdown episodes

I'm watching the episode where Hank goes to Wisconsin to stay with a local family as part of a Larry Sanders bit and acts totally inappropriately around them and it reminded me how it was a Hank meltdown episode that got me into the LSS, namely the one involving the opening of his ill fated eaterie and I was wondering what all your favourite Hank meltdown/crisis episodes or moments were?

reply

Hank's Night in the Sun, when he realizes he's not going to be allowed to host again the second night, would be up on my list somewhere.

That is an excellent example of a classic Hank episode (in both senses of the word).

Here's a few more that come to mind

Hank feigning a desire to commit suicide in wake of his divorce. Artie calls his bluff by handing him a pistol which is actually a cigarette lighter.

The episode where Hank converts to Judaism. He insists on wearing a yarmulke on air as well as insisting on being called by his new name "Hank Lepstein". Turns out his conversion is because he is after a pretty female rabbi and he quickly drops the religion when he finds out she's not interested.

The episode where Hank buys a classic car from Elvis Costello but the car turns out to be a complete and utter lemon; a disaster on wheels. When Elvis Costello is performing on the show, Hank quietly dons a pair of glasses similar to Elvis's and starts pulling faces.

"I'm mocking him because he's an *beep*

Hank's insisting on using his "Hey now" catchphrase in his auditions for both Caroline in the City and his voice acting role in Hercules with absolutely no awareness of how out of place it sounds.

LOL The first thing I thought of was the car that Hank bought. I almost fell on the floor when he explained to Brian that his problem was "Elvis f###ing Costello and his piece of s#@t mobile". Ha!

reply

Another great one.

I love when he tells Costello: "You owe me money, a$$hole."

Best of all is when Hank is in his office crying to Artie about the problems in opening his new restaurant. Burt Reynolds comes down the hall just as Hank is ranting about the electrical inspector or something like that, and Burt turns around and leaves, thinking Hank is talking about him.

And of course the series finale rant in the final scene, when hank tells Larry and Artie off once and for all, only to come back crying a few minutes later. Possibly the greatest performance in the entire series came from Hank in that final scene.

I love the end of "The Grand Opening" when Larry and Artie reveal to Hank that he slept through the grand opening of his own restaurant. This right here:

Why are you calling him Hank? His name is Irving Sussmen!

The Hankercizer 2000 - where Francine starts digging the journalistic dirt on the shoddy craftsmanship inherent in the product and Hank sounds off to Larry about it:

"And we all have to pay for the fact you're back together with that cnut."

Best. Hank. Ever

"Someone has been tampering with Hank's memories."

And the aftermath was beautiful, his immediate regret.

No....no....no....no

That's one of my all-time favorite Larry Sanders scenes. I just showed that scene to 2 friends of mine at separate times over the past few weeks. Classic stuff.

Larry: "Whoa. WHOA. What did you just say?? You couldn't of... did I hear you???..."

Larry (trying to stifle his laughter): "It was a back tooth, Hank..."

The sex tape episode, when his prayer is a quote from his contract, when he is punching his card board cut out, "you fat *beep*!" Only to be saved by Larry, "you caught us right in the middle of our Ike and Tina turner skit rehearsal."

Is there an episode where he sleeps with an African American call girl and then with an old call girl who happens to know Artie personally?

That season 2 episode in which Darlene inserts some colorful language into Hank's newsletter.
