The Gathering

I have only watched a few episodes of the show. Is it ever explained what happens to McCleod in NY after defeating the Kurgen. Wasn't that supposed to be the end of it all with McCleod gaining massive powers? I think the Kurgen even mentions that they are the only two left. Does the show just ignore the final events of the original film? It was my understanding that the Quickening film is not canon.

The TV series, while maintaining some continuity with the film (Connor McCleod exists, The Kurgen existed, the battle between the two of them happened) is not truly tied to the original film. It exists in its own universe. I always thought that it get better in the second season. The first was a bit clunky. It got really good once The Watchers began to play a significant role. Overall, I enjoyed the series as much as I enjoyed the original film. I use to watch it on the USA network back in the late 1990s. It was on right before WCW Monday Nitro. So, for me it was a nice lead in over "Thunder in Paradise" which aired at the same time on the TNT network. When Highlander was over I'd switch over to TNT. Good times :-)
