because the original show and phantasm film doesn't have enough quality or resolution?

The Phantasm movie is now available on blu-ray, at last. But I think it would be too much work to clean up the whole series and scan it in high definition.

No, hand-drawn animation finished on 35 mm film looks excellent when scanned at high resolution.
