What's your favorite quote?

I was completed floored by this tender, erotic movie. I have seen most of Saradon's work and this was her best! She was strong, sexy and "real". I always thought Spadrer was a total babe...(nice hiney scene!;0)
I found some of the quotes from this movie unforgetable.
My fav "There's no dust in her dustbuster!"
What's yours?

reply

Of course, I was biased going in because I adore Susan Sarandon and think she can do no wrong and I thought this was one of her best performances. I thought she was positively luminous in this film and her chemistry with Spader was absolutely kinetic. A must for Sarandon fans.

my favorite quote is when nora goes to the party and shes smoking in the bathroom and the woman walks in

woman: max is a nice catch...how did you pull it off
nora: i give a good blowjob
woman: i bet you do
nora: i bet you dont

hahaha.

reply

Yes Kisa, it has to be the "blow-job" part!

And don't forget when the woman defends herself by saying something to the effect of "You have no right judging other people's blow-jobs!"

reply

That did top it. Love this tender movie, love the acting, the writing, About the ending. Happy but sappy.

Wow, I just got a reply to my post from 4-1/2 years ago.

That's got to be a record for me. Thanks Photog!

Here's a reply to your post from 5 years ago; a new record! On an entirely new message board, even.

The no dust in her Dustbuster has to be my favorite line. Haven't seen or thought about this movie in years, and wouldn't have had a poster on another board not mentioned White Castles.

reply

Yeah Catbookss, that is a great line from a great movie.

Alright, we'll I guess there's nothing else to do but wait around for another 5 years for my next reply...

*waits patiently*

reply

Hey, you didn't have to wait all that long :D

I'm cleaning out my bookshelves and just came across the novel it was based on. Have you ever read it? It's good.

reply

nora: i give a good blowjob
woman: i bet you do
nora: i bet you dont

reply

Lucky! this susan sarandon fan has a mother that tells her to wait until shes older :(((((

No, I haven't had anything done. There wouldn't be all these wrinkles if I had~Susan Sarandon

The Thanksgiving dinner scene at the table when Nora gets up to leave after the "discussion" with the elder Mr. Horowitz-He says "Bring her back, she's still a person."

We laugh so hard everytime we see that part of the movie (we just saw it again for the first time in 3 years) . Not, "she is still welcome here" but "she is still a person." Classic pompous u-know-what!

Love the movie!

I agree, thrllme! This scene always makes me bust out laughing too. I also like, "Don't trip on the astro-turf." I think it's the way Susan Sarandon delievers that line. Hysterical. Oh yeah, and that scene where the mother says, "What's that?" and then Max says he'll beat the *bleep* out of her if she's not nice to Nora, etc. Anyway, there are sooooooo many great lines in this film. I adore this movie as well. fp

reply

That's easy...

"Be nice to her (mother) or I'll beat the sh** out of you"

reply

How is your mother?

reply

"Vodka Straight"

"Vodka Straight"

"Honey! come look at the new Chairs!"

It's so classic and it tells so much without saying anything...love that...

Call me Elphaba for I am Green!

reply

I wouldn't say this is my favorite, but I think it's absolutely hilarious when Max's mother stands up to leave and everyone tells her to sit down- she goes, "I came with them, I have to leave with them!"

reply

"If you don't like my ring dings, tough sh*t!"
LOL

MAX: I only know that when I'm not with you, I'm a total wreck.

NORA: And when you are with me?

MAX: I'm a different kind of total wreck.

reply

Love it!!!!!!

NORA: And when you are with me?

MAX: I'm a different kind of total wreck."

That's the quote! I love when he says that to her. I basically love this movie and James and Susan's work in it. I love how apologetic he is to her and her seducement scene. Very well done. They're great in it. I don't know if it would have been as good with Scorsese(?), maybe just different.

reply

When he tells the sister his version of how they met, looking at Nora the whole time:

"I seduced her on the sofa bed. And it was magic. And I keep coming back for more."

reply

"Mister, I am working class!"
