I'm in the mood to nitpick this movie

I like the movie but after viewing it again last night a few things are harder to accept. First. Leo accepts a call from his answering service theoretically from his sister. Would it not strike him as odd that his beloved sister would not have Leo's number for the cottage? Second. The Good Morning America interview is uber important for Leo. Further, Leo makes big money and would not miss a couple of hundred dollars on a monthly basis. Even further is Leo has an alarm clock and being a workaholic knows how to roll out of bed very early in the morning even after a long evening. I am sure that Bob can't be the only after hours client Leo has ever had. Let's put this altogether. Leo gets up at 5:30 and even with Bob's nonsense Bob is ready to roll at 6:15 and Leo hands the daughter 150 dollars to show Bob the best breakfast he has ever had or could dream about. Good Morning America even while there at 6:30 simply has Leo there and if Leo bends his ego slightly then maybe Fay gets 10 seconds of air time. All goes well and maybe then Leo can handle Bob for the rest of that day. I know characters have to suffer brain fog to get a lot of movies and television shows to work but Leo is not your average dimwitted blue collar shmuck. Third. Leo is anal about keeping order in the house and I get the walk with the daughter to have some one on one time but either right before or right after dinner a guy like Leo retrieves that car. Why could they not just say truck (I don't think the term SUV was in use then)? Anyways, the family made need the Jeep during the evening for any number of things. Maybe like going out to a burger place or ice cream and who knows maybe Bob would not be there when they leave. In any event the Jeep is there to take Bob elsewhere at night. Not a fatal flaw as Bob could have come to Leo's doorstep at the same time as GMA. Lastly. Guys like Leo marry women who are into them and are also very dedicated to them. Meaning from what I have seen in life the situation would very quickly reach a point where Fay would insist that Bob leave so as not to jeopardize the interview.

The Lillie call, I think you are overthinking things there. He had one second to ponder things when he was informed his sister had an urgent call. If you are told your sister is on the line with an urgent call you just take the call. You can ask her directly why she didn't call directly when you are speaking to her, you wouldn't refuse the call because you think she'd call you directly. You are just concerned as to why the call is urgent....possibly wrong.

I'm not even sure what the point was with the middle of your paragraph. I'd respond but I'm not really sure what it was even about.

Lastly, Fay not helping her man sooner and agreeing with him about Bob leaving has some merit. But you could tell she was so "nice" that you can believe her stance of inviting him to dinner because Leo threw him in the lake. They owed it to him to be hospitable because her husband was unreasonable to him. She probably would have agreed with Leo that Bob needed to go that night...until the rain hit (and the car was gone) angle. They couldn't kick Bob out during the rain storm.

Totally abandoning their car at the marina could be criticized as a little unbelievable.

Interesting that you see things differently and that is human nature. The point I was making in the middle was that Leo could have just spent his way out of the Good Morning America problem. Giving a couple hundred bucks to the daughter to take Bob out for breakfast would be no different than Leo giving some money to the kids to go shopping or to a movie if he wanted time alone with Fay. The daughter would have perceived it as a friendly gesture and would have more readily worked for the benefit of the family.

He probably wanted the whole family present for the interview.

One big wall of text.

Leo was under mega-stress because the Good Morning America interview, in his eyes, would be the turning point in his career. Bob suddenly injecting himself the day before had Leo flustered. That’s why Leo made all the mistakes and acted in a fashion he usually didn’t under normal circumstances.
