Why does the T-1000 not go straight to the Voight residence?

When the T-1000 spawns in under the 6th Street Bridge, he kills the cop and dresses up in his uniform, then hops straight in the cop car and enters in John Connors name on the computer looking up his file and gets his address straight away, which is 19828 Almond Ave (which is a fake address because the houses ACTUAL address is 19828 Valerio Street, Winnetka.)

My question is... If the two terminators need to get to John Connor so desperately and are basically racing against each other to get to him first, Why did the T-1000 not go straight to John Connors house then and there as soon as he found out what his address was? Being very late at night (possibly early hours of the morning), John and his foster parents would have most likely been asleep at this time making it the perfect time for the T-1000 to strike, but instead he doesn't go to their house looking for John until the following morning.

Finding his address so quickly would have given the T-1000 a huge advantage over the other terminator to reach John first, so why did the T-1000 not take advantage when he had the chance. So I guess that raises two more questions... What was the T-1000 doing for the rest of the night? and secondly, How did the T-800 find out where John lived? Looked in the address book like the terminator does in the first film to find Sarah?

If anyone reading this lives in L.A. how long do you think it would take for the T-1000 to drive from the 6th street bridge to Winnetka? (if he was in a hurry), a plausible theory is the T-1000 spent the rest of the night driving as these two locations are a fair way away from each other. another theory is the T-1000 didn't know about the other terminator at all until Todd and Jannelle mention it to him, so he just took his time a bit more. Just curious to see what everyone else thinks about it all.

We aren't given a specific time when the T-1000 comes through the portal. It could have been 4am and still dark out. The T-1000 drives straight there, and hits traffic?? (Now that could have been an interesting scene!) shows up at Todd and Janelles a few hours later.

reply

Well if the T-1000 comes through the portal say between 2-4am, the traffic at that time would be at the minimal so he could basically flaw it as fast as he could to get to the Voight residence in Winnetka without been held up at all by traffic. Acting as a cop, all he'd have to do is put his siren and lights on and that would entitle him to just drive as fast as the car could go and he'd get there in no time. but again that's why I asked how long would it typically take to drive from the 6th street bridge to Winnetka? is it a substantial drive or would a police officer in a hurry be able to get there quickly?

But that's my theory, The T-1000 didn't know about the other terminator until Todd and Janelle mention it to him, so the T-1000 just took its time...Another thing i thought of, maybe the T-1000 can't see too good of a night so it decided to lay low until the morning to go looking for John so it could function at it's full efficiency.

reply

Hmm. The T1000 seems to drive fine at night in other scenes. Good point about the siren though.

Maybe the T1000 isn't in LA when it goes thru the portal? I have no idea on traffic in that area as I'm from Australia :-)

reply

Yeah true, the T-1000 certainly has no problem flying a helicopter at night time so I guess that renders that argument null and void.

It is Downtown Los Angeles where the T-1000 spawns though, because when the cop first pulls up in the car he says into his radio what hes investigating and he actually says his location to dispatch.. something like "Officer Austin at the 6th street bridge, on an electrical disturbance."

The 6th street bridge is in fact a real location in Downtown LA. you can see good photo's of it on jamescamerononline.com just go to T2 and go to movie locations. the photo's are really good. but anyway yeah there's the evidence that where the T-1000 lands is basically smack bang in the middle of LA

Lol? the address is fake anyway it is in a movie.

reply

There's an easy answer for that. The T1000 got lost or must have had some trouble finding the address. Los Angeles is a big city and it's very easy for someone to get lost in any big city, even if you know where you're going. Plus, the T1000 is only programmed with records before the war, so if any of the information about the city map is inaccurate or not updated, it could take plenty of time to figure that out.

reply

Yeah true good answer, I actually didn't think of that. And since there were no GPS back in those days The T-1000 would have probably had to stop and ask people in the public how to get to that address, so it does make sense that the T-1000 took so long to get to John, I'd still like to know how the T-800 managed to find his address though... was he programmed to just look in the phone book like the Terminator from the first film?

reply

My guess is in the future John simply input the information about his address into the T800's memory before sending it back via the time displacement equipment.

reply

They had GPS in 1995, and in 1991 when the movie was made. Why the T-800 knew exactly where to go is simple, because John told him where to go before sending him back.

Cool thanks! I have been looking for that address. How did you find this out‽

On a different ♪, the same thing was done in Valley Girl
The address given was 23727 (and some street name) but the actual address was 23727 Posey Ln in Canoga Park. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086525/locations?ref_=tt_dt_dt

I found out off a website but i can't remember which one. It was a website to do with movie locations.... If you're interested Paranormal Activity 4, the main house used in that movie is also in Los Angeles and is actually located not far from the T2 house. The address for that is 23514 Hatteras St, Los Angeles. and the house across the street is also used in the movie (Robbies house). It's funny in a way, because Paranormal Activity 4 is set in Henderson, Nevada and yet 95% of the movie was filmed in LA. Go figure lol

reply

We don't know at what time the T1000 impersonates the policeman, nor do we know how far he is from John's house. Maybe it's a 3-hour drive, we just don't know.
As for the T-800, he was programmed by John himself in the future, so he knew the correct address beforehand. Just needed some clothes, boots and a motorcycle.
