They never talk with each other. (Terminators)

Did you notice that t-1000 never talks to t-800, he doesn't say a single word to him,
he talks with almost all the other characters in the film, he even talks to John towards the end.
In Terminator 3 t-x never talks with t-800 either. Do you think it means anything? Or is it "just because"?

"Do you think it means anything? Or is it "just because"?"

I'd say it's "just because". It's not as if Terminators would feel the need to engage in small talk the way humans do, even if they had been on the same side.

Come to think of it, there are plenty of humans who aren't that good at small talk either. What would the Terminators have to talk about anyway? As the T-800 said to John, "the T-1000 knows all I know."

reply

Maybe they don't even need their voices to communicate (with each other). They might as well have wireless data transfer as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Anyway, it's better this way. (Makes them look even more insensitive.)

reply

If they talked to each other it would make the whole concept of two machines fighting fall flat on it's face. It would look like a family guy skit.

I don't remm if they talked in the terminator show

reply

Arnie does talk to the T1000

He says 'hasta la vista baby'

Adjust your face; take your time, because it's about to be rocked off - permanently

They're programmed usually only to communicate when necessary. I suppose talking to each other accomplishes nothing, so they don't. For the most part. The T-5000 in GENISYS refers to them as "slaves" but this T-800 is programmed to learn, so I wonder if they could develop free will given enough time and information. Maybe there could have been a sequel where Terminators really do decide to rebel against Skynet and fight alongside the humans.

Yes the terminators can develop free will thats why skynet keeps them on a short leash in t2 extended cut we see they fix that buy adjusting arnolds cpu or what ever if the terminators had free will they would prolly rebel against skynet not sure if they would side with humans but they sure wouldnt side with skynet lol

reply

It's funny because this topic reminds me of the fact that in the toy commercials the kid playing with figures made them talk. It was typical villain/hero talk.
T-1000: Take that! (Knocks him into a vat of water which is supposed to be chemicals)
Terminator (after turning into an endo skeleton): I'm back! Now I'm a different Terminator! I'm techno punch! Hasta Lavista baby!" (Knocks the T-1000 into the vat)

Green Goblin is great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1L4ZuaVvaw

reply

Yeah she does. She corrupts his database through her nano programming needle thing. Talking can also mean data transfer, which happened there.

THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR. COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS HERE!!!

What would they have to say to each other? "Your dad was a blender and your mom sucked dust off the floor... now go away before I taunt you a second time?"

reply

What you saw was assault. I am pretty sure stepping on someone's head until it snaps off and injecting them with something is assault.

I liked it because it solved a movie mistake, which was brought up two years later in Last Action Hero (which coincidentally starred Arnold Schwarzenegger) where Dany Madigan said, "you just made a classic movie mistake, talking to the enemy before you kill him!".

"you just made a classic movie mistake, talking to the enemy before you kill him!"

so many points awarded by CinemaSins for that mistake.

That's the problem with theatrics.
"Do you expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr Bond, i expect you to die"
(then why not just shoot him and be done with it?)

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

reply

Because they both know they cannot force the other into submission. They can only fight and prevent the other from succeeding in their missions. T-1000 could not have forced T-800 to call John’s name, but he knew it was possible with Sarah since she was human. That’s why they never try to negotiate with the other. As Kyle Reese says, “They can’t bargained with, they can’t be reasoned with…”.
