When in theaters...

Did anyone actually see this movie back in 1990?? I saw it in the theater, I think it was in theaters for what seemed like a week. I enjoyed it, thought it was a little absurd, but it was entertaining...

I remember seeing it in the theaters and thinking it was a pretty good time-waster. After Midnight Run Charles Grodin did a dozen of these types of movies where he was the frustrated sideman. I think this is his funniest.

I definitely saw it in theaters. I thought it was fun then, and still think it's fun now. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it's what is (or should be) meant by a "light comic romp". While it's not constant hilarity, it's an enjoyable distraction, and I think it says a lot that it is withstanding the test of time, as well as numerous re-watchings, and is still quite fun.

I am amused to see that it's JJ. Abrahm's scripting, too. Not amazed, but I never noticed that.

Offhand, it's one of those "10 flicks for a deserted island" (and yeah, one can name a lot more than 10, for sure, but it would make the first draft list, without a doubt), just for its re-watchability.

Some others like that:
======================
Final Countdown
Hopscotch
The Matrix
Terminator 2
Dead Poets Society
The Bourne Identity
Clerks
10 Things I Hate About You
12 Angry Men
American Beauty

The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
Enemy of the State

A Little Romance

That's all over the map for style, but I know I've seen all of those a number of times and enjoyed them each successive time, too. I suspect I could find even more but that's quite a list. If there are any you haven't seen, I recommend any of those as worth seeing at least once, and, I think you may find, more than once.

I didn't see it in the theaters, but I remember this movie went to video pretty quickly. My cousin was having a sleep over with me in 1990 and we rented Taking Care of Buisness from our local Blockbuster Video. Yeah the blonde chick in the swimsuit was our favorite part. Great times.

Heh.. Yeah, I always wondered who they thought they were by asking for your social security number. Or maybe I'm thinking of some other video rental place... It's creepy how many businesses want it, even today.

But I remember seeing this movie for the first time while sitting on the couch with my family when I was a kid. I thought it was nothing special, but still quite fun. Sort of a throw-away entertainment that you only see maybe once every ten years, but you remember. Overall I liked it as much today as I did then.

I went to a birthday part in 1990, but we didn't see this. My friend who was having the birthday (turning 8 I think) wanted to see Arachnophobia so we saw that (yes at age 8-10ish)! His older brother who was born on the same day went to see this movie with his friend at another theater.

I had never heard of this flick when it had came out, but I don't remember it out long at all. They were the only people I knew who saw it. I later netflixed this and liked it quite a bit.
