Why do they become buddies?
Grodin and Belushi's characters.
Belushi's character has basically ruined the other guys career for him. :(

its true that Jimmy ruined Spencers career and at first he was pissed, but he soon realized that he hated his life, and that Jimmy a escaped con enjoyed life. The only thing that mattered to Spenser was talking to his wife and making sure she was there for him, if he lost everything but her he would survive. Once Spencer lost his job he lost his identity, the reason he hung around with Jimmy is that he had no where else to go. Once Spencer heard from his wife and realized that she was still there for him, all that had happened didnt matter, his wife didnt care about his job so he no longer cared either. he then realized that Jimmy had shown him a new and better way to live so he helped Jimmy get back into prison.
shareThe guy was in a boring, senseless rut living his entire life for other people... After spending time with Jimmy, he realized that he needed a change, and, as long as he still had his wife (who was about to leave him as a result of her being ignored while he lived his life for others), he didn't care about losing that part of it. And he knew that he didn't need the ass"whole" he was working for, anyway.
shareSpencer initially drags Jimmy along to prove who he is, but by the point of that being useless, he lets his guard down when realizes what a sh!thole his life's become. Grodin shows that underneath Spencer's robotic work-a-holic there used to be a fun guy who'll help someone out.
sharehe hated his life, and that Jimmy a escaped con enjoyed life.Kind of ironic that an escaped con helped the real spencer "escape" from a miserable life. They had that in common: They both escaped from something.
I think you make an excellent point.
