Male or Female Angel?

So, what do you think? Do you think the soul of Steve/Amanda decided to become a male or a female angel? My guess????.....

I think Steve/Amanda would decide to stay Amanda and become a female angel. I have a few reasons to justify this.

First, nobody really liked Steve anyway. All women hate him, and he probably only had a very small handful of male friends (Walter being the main one). However, now as Amanda, she has a daughter that would love to see her mother one day. Amanda had something Steve didn't. A family.

Secondly, Steve began to assume and fit into his female role towards the end of the movie. In matter of fact, I'd dare say he always had a feminine side (which would explain his homophobia and overly dominating male personality as Steve, he was trying to keep the feminine side in check.) Remember what Walter told Amanda about Steve: he was horrible to women, but he loved kids..and dogs. That is more of a maternal/feminine trait that wouldn't fit a personality like Steve. If assuming there is no sex in Heaven (why would there be?), I think "Amanda" would be perfectly comfortable being a female angel.

Third, four or five years passed since God first asked Amanda what kind of angel she wanted to be. She was still undecided. Being this much time has passed, I think it is safe to say she will keep her present form.

Nice post! I always did like the idea better that Steve would remain female, and I like your reasonable arguements supporting the idea.

Of course it's a nice touch that the film doesn't tell you what Steve ultimately decides, it instead leaves it up to each viewer to come to their own conclusion as to what choice he would end up making.

Thanks, petekrup17! I saw this movie for the first time back last June. My only regret is that I never knew it existed prior to then. I had seen the very similar "Goodbye Charlie" several years ago (the original movie that "Switch" was based on), but had never heard of this one. This movie really made me think and ponder more than any other I have seen, as it dealt with so many life issues (life, death, relationships, gender roles, battle of the sexes, battle of good and evil, issues of morality, and on and on. It was sad, yet joyful. Twisted, yet beautiful. Intellectual, yet entertaining. It was crude at times, but overall very cleverly done. This movie did a little bit of everything, yet didn't go far enough and left you wanting more. Because of this I have always enjoyed voicing my opinions regarding this movie and talking to other fans of this very underated movie.

I think "Steve" would have just decided to stay as Amanda. It seems weird that she took so long to decide but obviously it was done for comedy.

Her time as a woman was not the highlight of her life but she loved the kid a bunch. The kid changed her life and I don't think if she somehow got a chance to live that she would have been able to go on as Steve again.
