based on porn?

I heard that this film was taken from the plot of a porn flick. Possibly "Cleo/Leo" which came out a few years earlier and stars Veronica Hart? Did Blake Edwards or anyone else connected with the film admit this? Here is the link to the summary on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097069/plotsummary

I always thought it was based on a Debbie Reynolds/Tony Curtis film called "Goodbye Charlie."

I've seen Minnelli's film today for the first time and immediately thought of Switch

reply

it was in fact a remake of Goodbye Charlie

Actually, this film is a remake of a comedy from the 1960's called GOODBYE CHARLIE,which starred Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis.

reply

This actually is a remake of a porno called Angel Number 9 and not Goodbye, Charlie.

reply

Actually, it's a remake of my life.

i've seen both this and cleo/leo, and they are quite similar (cleo/leo probably "borrowed" their idea from the previously mentioned 'goodbye, charlie', which i haven't seen). cleo/leo is actually better than switch, because of the nudity.

I enjoyed Goodbye Charlie and wondered if it was also a Blake Edwards effort. The premise is the same, but the story line is much more developed in SWITCH. I think Charlie went for pure laughs and Switch went for mature thinking about our roles in American society. I can't believe the whining on these threads like 'a guy wouldn't keep wearing high heels... Uh, this is fantasy film fellows. Give it some slack.

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

You are absolutely right, grumpy. I have watched both movies and enjoyed both. They are very similar, yet very different in the ways you mentioned. I liked "Switch" better than "Charlie" just because "Switch" did go deeper. There are a few things I would have liked to seen done differently, but still easily one of my favorite movies. I think the critics were entirely too tough on this movie, and failed to notice the many moral, theological, ironical, and intellectual aspects of this movie.

Switch wasn't Blake Edwards' only survey into the transgender realm, or rather the 'Herren als Damen'/'Damen als Herren' theme. Victor/Victoria with his wife Julie Andrews anyone?

reply

Are you kidding? It is a definately a remake of "Goodbye, Charlie". Research it. Everything you'll find states 'Switch' was a remake of this 1964 comedy. However "Angel Number 9" was made in 1974, so it itself was probably based off of "Goodbye Charlie" as well. I haven't seen "...Number 9", but from what I just read about it, it does seem similar to 'Switch' and '...Charlie', except for the porn part.

Hmm. Could be.
