I wonder why he took such a small role in this? It's not as if he was unknown. He had recently had big roles in "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves" and "Young Guns II", among others.
Does anyone know if his role was supposed to be bigger but got cut?

I think he was just happy to be in a Star Trek movie regardless because he was a huge fan. Plus, it helped that his mom was the casting director.
shareThats all it was. His mother was the casting agent and he is a big trek fan. Just a cameo is all it was, the scene isnt even needed really. He aparently framed the check when he was paid and never cashed it.
shareI bet the more hardcore Star Trek fans the celebrities are, then they would also do a cameo for much less than what they are used to be paid.
For them it would be like a dream come true just to be in a Star Trek production.
I actually expect they would do it for nothing, or even pay the studio to allow them to be in it, but the various unions etc wouldn't allow it.
