Been watching all the old films again and there's one thing that always made me wonder
Praxis, I presume is in orbit of Kronos/Qu'nos, so it's explosion contaminates the atmosphere, leaving only 50 years before it becomes uninhabitable.
But, why does that mean the Klingons will die out? they have warp drive, they must have multiple planets under their control already
Any thoughts?
I can only presume they're speaking figuratively about the death of the Klingon culture (as stated during the banquet). Even if so, it's still comes off as a confusing grab at dramatic effect.
shareYes they were warp capable, but because of their runaway military budget did not have the resources to handle it. The Klingons wouldn't become completely extinct, but many could die and in the process they could crumble as a government/society. No Klingon homeworld or Empire, just Klingons scattered around the galaxy. Gorkon's ideas were probably hard for many Klingons to swallow, making peace with the Federation and focusing their war-like race on the peaceful business of preserving their planet. Given that Klingons aren't into the whole self-preservation thing, many would rather just go down fighting. Or just didn't want to change, they weren't worried about what was going to happen in 50 years, they want to fight now.
