No ship around Kitomer except Enterprise ??

How did all the delegates get to Kitomer, there should have been armadas from both the Federation & Klingon homeworlds to get leaders of both planets safely there.

Of course like almost every ST movie, the Enterprise is the only ship anywhere in the Federation. TMP: hey, its only Earth

Always thought the same when an enemy attacks earth
In numerous ST movies and episodes there's at least one BIG starbase orbiting earth, but you never see it come to the defence of earth
A lot of what goes on in star trek doesn't make sense to me
Like when the borg cube comes to earth in First contact, instead of sending tons of ships to attack it, resulting in the deaths of hundreds/thousands, why not remote pilot/ram a starship into the cube, the explosion from the warp core alone would probably cripple or destroy the ship, with no loss of life.

Well I can understand why they are short on starships. Just about every Federation ship the Enterprise finds is either destroyed or ends up being destroyed.

Makes you wonder how The Dominion War was one, even by giving The Great Link the full blown AIDS

They all beamed there using JJverse technology.

Well wasn't it supposed to be secret? The more ships involved the more chance of leaks in the secret. I don't see it as impossible that one Federation ship transported their delegates and likewise with the Klingons. The battle between Kirk and Chang happens en route to Khitomer not in orbit.
