Edited version

At the conference when the would be assassin is hit by Scotty's phaser and crashes through the glass he lands heavily on the floor and there is quite a bot of blood. However I seem to remember that as the Starfleet officer bends over him a mask is removed revealing his true identity - but this appears to have been cut out of the SyFy channel version.

Anyone concur? Thanks

Ok thanks - I've never seen the DVD or VHS versions so the director's cut must have been shown on TV by a channel - but it must have been at least a decade ago if not longer.

Why was the scene cut?

reply

I'm not sure, probably for time, but the scene was never included in the Theatrical Cut, so what you saw on TV was not an edited version but the way it was in its original release. That's the only version available on Bluray and in HD.

The scene with the mask being pulled off is an added scene to the Director's Cut which is only available on DVD and SD.

Thanks -I'll do some googling to see if I can find anything - perhaps it was felt it added nothing to the story.

Clearly at some point the director's cut was shown on TV

When the film was first released on home video back in 1992, it was on VHS and Laserdisc and it was the Director's Cut. It would make sense that you saw that version on TV back then because only the Theatrical Cut has been released in HD and Bluray.

Wish the D C would be put on blu ray!
