Colonel West cut out of the syndicated reruns
I watched this movie in its cinema run (1991) and originally owned a VHS tape of it.
Over the course of the current year I have seen this movie again, first on BBC America and then on Epix.
Something is missing. Or rather, someone.
Colonel West (Rene Auberjois, uncredited).
Does anyone remember him?
"Sir, we can go in, extract the hostages, and get out."
The President rejects that plan, but Ambassador Nanclus actually tries to egg West on!
Later, the "Klingon" who tries to assassinate the President at Khitomer, bleeds red. Because it turns out to be Colonel West.
But when this film ran on BBC-America and Epix, I estimate a total of five minutes of footage, including all mention of Colonel West, are missing. The "Klingon" assassin at Khitomer still bleeds red; you can see that plainly. But we are left to believe it is still a renegade Klingon and not a renegade human officer dressed like a Klingon.
What happened? Why did Paramount insist, as they must have done, that BBC America, and then Epix, cut out five minutes of footage and remove all reference to Colonel West?
Did Rene Auberjois somehow get a court to enjoin Paramount from even hinting he had anything to do with ST6:TUC?
Or did Paramount decide on their own that Colonel West set a poor example? (But then what about Admiral Cartwright, who clearly turns traitor between ST4 and ST6?)
Strange.
And if this is a duplicate, I apologize.
