"Manhunter" is my favorite movie from the 1980s. I love it. TSOTL is enjoyable. The rest I didn't care for.

I have plenty of movies I enjoy from the 80's Mr. H, and I could have a long list of the best; but I would find it hard to single out a favorite, that is if those terms are not inter-changeable. It is great you can pinpoint one sole film and feel confident claiming it. MANHUNTER-86', also represents that indelible 80's feel and vibe about it; with an intelligent render of it's story. It is also scary. I haven't seen for years and would need to revisit.

I suppose in terms of pure enjoyment and watch-ability factor, I could go with TOOTSIE-82'. Drama, I would have to go with AMADEUS-84', action RAMBO II-85' and horror PSYCHO II-83', although BASKET CASE-82' would be just as worthy.

Well, I love doing my OCD lists of favorites. And the 80s were a huge come down, for me, from the 70s, which is definitely my favorite decade. I love the last 2 movies on your list, Rascal. And "Tootsie" is hilarious. I also love "Terms of Endearment" and "Ordinary people" and "9 to 5" and "16 Candles" and "Mommie Dearest" and "Body Double" and "Dressed to Kill" and some of the slashers I'm very attached to. But even those are all from the early part of the deacade, except for "Manhunter". It wasn't hard at all to pick it out as my favorite. In fact, it's probably the best movie that I've seen in many years, as in having seen it for the first time. And like you said, it's very 80s.

I go with the early to mid 80's as having the best on offer too Mr. H from the decade. Those very early ones like "9 to 5", "Mommie Dearest"—which I have a problem with—"Ordinary People", "Porky's", "Mad Max 2", "Gallipoli", "Tootsie" and plenty of goody slashers, gave us some interesting films. They may have been imbued or influenced by the late 70"s period that started to change as the 80's was really getting underway by 83\84, with new technologies, styles, music and films started to take on their own character, uniqueness and 80's atmosphere. I usually gravitate towards 86', as serving up a bevy of interesting and enjoyable cinema.
