Was Kosner (35) meant to be 21 in this?

He returns home after 6 years away to find that things have changed.

He hasn't seen Mary since they were a child, and somehow thinks that a fat woman could be her after so much time.

Really?

The only way this story makes sense is if the characters are early 20s at most.

Kosner looked his age (I guessed 35 watching it) so I don't really understand the whole 'I haven't seen you since you were a child' aspect. Unless he was 29 and she was 14 or something?

I got that feeling as well. There's a certain narcissism in most of Mr. Costner's work that makes his characters more noble, smarter, attractive to women, etc., than they really should be, so I could see them thinking they were pulling it off.

And life expectancy was around 40 then so he's no spring chicken lol

He marries Marion then they both promptly die of old age.

Life expectation was never really so low. Only the average was so low, because it was common that every second child just never reached adulthood. And then all the woman who died during child birth. But especially noble men could reach easily an old age of 60 .

" There's a certain narcissism in most of Mr.Costner's work..." You spotted and nailed his style perfectly. It seems he only takes roles where he can appear as a martyr, or otherwise as some tragic hero. He also has a smugness about him. It's sickening, like artificial sweetener.

I think Costner's Robin Hood was meant to be somewhere around thirty. Old enough to have assumed control of the family estates and gone off to war in the Middle East and become a combat veteran and been a prisoner and drifted home, in a time where international travel took months or years. All that is a bit of a stretch for a 20-year-old.

So if Robin Hood is meant to be around 30 and Maid Marian was meant to be around 20, I can live with that.

Very sound, indeed.

Still better than a 45 year old Russell Crowe in 2010 Robin Hood.
