While I liked the gun play in the film for the most part, they did make a mistake. The 45-110 cartridge is not very high velocity. The bullet will never arrive at the target more than one second ahead. In the movie, Marston estimated the shooter's range at about 1000 yards when his men said the bullet arrived 2 seconds ahead of the muzzle noise. This is not possible as the bullet slows to sonic speed in less than 1000 yards and the sound is never less than 1/2 second behind.
Wish I had one of those rifles though, nicely built.

shareQuigley was using a 45-110 single shot breech-loading 1874 sharps. There are exact replicas made from the rifle in the movie (actually the people who make teh replicas made teh gun for the movie) they're out of Big Timber, Montana;
