Sequel
Do you think that there should be a sequel? Something like "Quigley up North". Iknow chances are it will never happen, but it's fun to think about it.

shareI heard Selleck say in an interview last year that he would love to do a sequel, but I'd say the odds are slim. For some reason studios have never been willing to bank on Selleck as a star.

I think if they can make a sequal with Paul Hogan in Crocodile Dundee something like 15 years later, then sure they can make a sequal with Tom Selleck also 15 years on.I would LOVE to see a Quigley Down Under 2.

If they make a sequel, they should call it "Quigley On Top"
I heard Selleck say in an Interview, there was a problem with the movie rights. Makes me wonder if that also has anything to do with the soundtrack being out of print and unavailable unless you want to pay $75 for a used copy thru an Amazon seller.
shareI think a sequel for Quigley would be fantastic, though it is a little late for one. That's too bad they didn't make one 15 years ago, because Quigley himself is the perfect character for a Western series, there's so many different directions you could take it in.
shareYeah, there should be. I'd say either have Quigley up north in the Yukon during the Gold Rush there, or maybe in South America--not much chance for long range shooting there but it would be a neat setting.
My theory would be he feels he's running out of room in the lower 48 and needs to move on where he's not so boxed in, and his skill is still in need. Or maybe he's looking to just make a stake with a gold claim in either suggested location.
What I wouldn't want carried over is the helping of natives. That was GREAT in Down under, but I'd hate to see Quigley become some kind of Billy Jack who wanders about helping the downtrodden--then the movies just become the same.

I have always thought that there should be a series of sequels, if not movies, then books. Quigley in the Great White North, Quigley in the Klondike, Quigley on the Barbary Coast, etc.
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room!"
Quigley In Africa might be pretty cool.

No No No,
Quigley and Cora get on a ship that is blown off course and ends up in an asian country, where hijinks ensue.
Call it Quigley Goes East
I'm guessing part of the reason there was no sequel was the fact that this movie bombed at the box office. It only grossed $21 million, which put it well out of the top 50 movies for that year (which means it did worse than Exorcist III and Child's Play 2). Personally, I enjoyed it, though.
shareHmmmm.......and "alternative history" film called "Quigley vs. Tom Horn"?
shareI would LOVE to see a sequel to this film.
Some characters deserve to return to the screen time and time again for new adventures and Matthew Quigley is definitely one of those.
I know westerns are a tough sell, Selleck isn't too highly bankable, and the original wasn't a success, but still we can all dream.
The title always seemed to imply it was part of a series, that there had been previous Quigley films, I was surprised to find it was the only one.
shareI would almost swear by seeing the cover of a movie entitled exactly that. I couldn't tell if Tom Sellec was on the cover because they were wearing a big eskimo coat, but it had polar bear decals in stead of the kangaroo ones the other did. I cant find the info anywhere though, and its beena long time since I saw the cover.
