How did Quigley know the name 'Cobb'?

minor Spoiler.

All throughout the film Cora is only referred to as "Crazy Cora" or just Cora. Her (means: her ex-husbands-) name is *imho* never to be heard.
In the final scene, Quigly introduces himself to the boarding officer as "Roy Cobb".
Did he make up this name spontaneously, or is it truely Roy´s family-name and I missed the part where it was mentioned?

I don't recall (offhand - a while since I saw Quigley) the name being mentioned.

More worrying is the fact that they boarded a ship moments after being in the middle of a desert.

No way there might have been a chance to talk about things inconsequential while travelling so quickly from one place to another?

I noticed that, but it didn't bother me... they spent an awful lot of time together, surely Quigley would have been curious about his "alter ego."

@davismargaret: yeah, that´d figure...

I just saw the movie again , When she was explaining about how she smothered the baby,she mentioned her husbands full name as Roy Cobb.

Ah, thanx!
Got the DVD and watched it undubbed only once.
I obviously missed that line...

Just watched this film again, it was on the other night in Oz. I am afraid that she doesn't, at any stage, in the film mention her husband's full name. Even in the credits she is listed as "Crazy Cora". I suspect he needed an alias, saw her, used "Roy" and then just made up the name "Cobb" (possibly from the coaches?)...

I've been watching Quigley Down Under every single night for a week trying to see the end of it. For some reason, it's better than Ambien for helping me fall asleep @@. Finally tried watching in the daytime this morning and made it all the way through. Woo hoo! Excellent movie.

Anyhoo, Crazy Cora never mentions her last name. If she does, it has been edited out.

It was a nice catch by the OP. It's a name that he would have seen over and over again during that time period. "Cobb & Company" was the Wells Fargo of Australia at the time, the name would have been all around him and maybe fresh in his mind. Whether it was because of this or not is anyone's guess.
