Set of the house on fire?

At the end of Psycho VI, the Bates Manor is set alight somehow (I can't remember how) and we see certain parts of it burnt to a crisp. Yet in future documentars beyond 1990 you see it in perfect condition! I've read a few other posts on this board and I think I read something about 2 sets but I couldnt be bothered reading back thorugh them. Could someone please explain to me!

The house from this movie was located @Universal Florida.

The burnt house is a special effect matte painting. They didn't burn the 'real house.

dcfixx is correct

They built a replica Psycho house and Bates Motel at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. They caught the replica house on fire for the final scene of the movie. I remember going to Universal Studios Florida in 1991 and they were working on repairing the house from where it was burnt and only half of the house was painted...the backside of the house was all white where they had replaced that section and had yet to be painted. A lot of the movie was filmed at Universal Hollywood but the whole ending of the movie was at Univeral Orlando Florida.

Actually, the movie was shot ENTIRELY at Universal in Florida with the exception of the radio station which was a set in an old TV station facility. I am the webmaster of ThePsychoMovies.com and spoke to Mark Bradley who was one of the set people - he confirmed the whole movie was shot in Florida and not ONE shot was done in L.A.

That's cool. I knew the final scene was shot in Florida but imdb has listed Universal Studios Hollywood as a location shoot too so figured they must have filmed some of the movie there at least.

I remember hearing that given the "Psycho House's" symmetrical nature they built it with one half looking run down and old and the other side looking new and freshly painted. That way they could shoot the flashback parts of this film and the 1990 parts of the film on the same location without having the spend the time and money redressing the exterior of the house.
