This one is somewhat entertaining; but a convoluted mess—like III—nonetheless. PSYCHO II-83' was unique and fresh, in that it gave us a long awaited follow up; an interesting premise of Norman being slowly driven insane again—after being supposedly cured—and excellent, atmospheric, nostalgic direction. PSYCHO III-86', came along 3 years later and decided to twist the mother identity head over heels again......Mrs. Spool was only his aunt after all.
Norman being married to his psychiatrist and a soon to be father, is a preposterous plot device and the film ends with all the demons of the early part of his past being released. Only they forgot about the rest of his behaviour in the earlier sequels. What transpires in this film, is only the icing on the cake, since it is mostly about "The Beginning". Wouldn't they have been released sooner, during his incarceration and treatment after the first instalment and also after PSYCHO III?
