If this ever does get a blu-ray release, I pray they issue it in the 1:33:1 ratio and not in that godawful fake-widescreen that they utilized for the Universal triple-pack DVD set - there's more than one close-up where people's heads/mouths are cut off.
However, I'm not sure if it's even possible to give this a proper 1080 blu-ray transfer. The movie was made for cable (Showtime) and in those days a lot of TV productions were shot on film and then edited on video. If that's the case, they'd have to locate the original film negatives and then reassemble/re-edit it. That's more work than Universal would ever put into it (the first film is the cashcow; they don't care so much about the sequels), which might explain why it wasn't reissued when Shout Factory released II & III on blu-ray in 2013. Since it did attain theatrical distribution in Europe, hopefully my speculation is wrong, it was edited on film and will eventually get a blu-ray release one of these days.
