There was a scene in the movie where young Norman was bringing a glass of drink to his mother and then his mom asked him to clean her leg with orange-flower water. Then his mom starts to tickle him saying "wicked boy spilling mama's orange flower water!" Then she was on top of him and looked like they were about to make out. What was that scene all about? Of all the strange things I've seen in movies this is one of them that I couldn't figure out. Was there some kind of sexual relationship with Norman and his mother? If anyone knows the answer please post. Thanks.
I believe it is supposed to highlight Norman's mixed feelings towards his mother, and women in general. It seems that, in this sequence, due to his isolated existance, Norman has his first experience with a woman, regardless of whether or not it is his mother. I hope this answers your question.
That's what i've always thought. To me, the look on his face said, "Oh, sh*t, she knows." And the look on her face said, "Damn! If only I was much younger!"
JACK: Never let go, Rose (she sneezes and drops him.) ROSE: (after a pause) Oops.
It was an important scene to show how close they were together, they had only each other. Thats why Norman killed her and Chet because he felt pushed aside. There's another scene, I think its when Norman is boxing with Chet and he refers to a comment Norma made about Norman being well hung. Their was an incest thing going on, definately an attraction though never physical.
Also if you look at it Norman was lusting after his aunt Norma not his mother becuase in Psycho II Norma's sister Mrs. Spool was reveled as Norman's real mother. I know that doesn't make it any less bad but still atleast it's not his mother.
Does nobody remember how the narration says 'Lets just say I got a little too big for my britches' or some such? Read the tongue in cheek, people ;p Course he got a hardon and she felt it.
There was incest going on, and to me, it seemed that the mother/aunt was punishing Norman for it sometimes. Like she was angry she couldn't cross the BIG line with him. Like when Chet spends the night and the next morning, he's talking about the only time a man should be naked in front of a woman is when they have sex. Well, the mother/aunt gives Norman this look like, 'You see, I let him do things with me that I won't let you do.' or something along those lines. Plus, it seems to me, that she was being overly sexual with him. The scene with the whatever oil or water. Man, I almost jumped out of my seat because I wondered if they were actually going to go at it. Norman definitely got a 'hard' problem when he was on top of her and she noticed it. That's why she dressed him as a girl and said she was going to make him forget he even had one. A penis. But she should have thought. He's a teenage boy, who doesn't get much girl interaction and no father or father-figure to explain any of this stuff to him, and even if he did. He could not stop from getting hard when his body was close to another's and they were very close.
Ummmm. has it nore really dawned on everyone that.. seriously.. Momma was a bit BATTY as hell? I mean.. ticlking Norman at his dad's funeral? then slapping him for laughing? There are several other scenes in which she does have a very.. love hate relationship with him.. and granted I think she did push the lines.. and I think Norman's CONFUSION over that is definitely part of what pushed him over the edge.. but to say they were going at it.. ever.. no.. I don't buy it.. that Mom definitely at times I think flirted with it.. then would punush him for it.. seems a motif of something she did anyway.. see the tickling incident.
It's pretty obvious that Norman's mother was cock-teasing him throughout the movie. When she shacked up with Joe Bugner, she was basically telling Norman, "look what this brute is doing to me each night - things you can only dream of Normie".
I loved this angle, and wish they had expanded on it.
She had boundary issues. There were two scenes. First, she asks Norman to climb into bed with her and take off his wet clothes first, then hold her. This is where he's "too big for his britches." Then the second scene where she asks him to rub her down with the orange water and they end up wrestling around and he gets wood again. There's some things you just don't do with the kiddies.
Haha yeah I'm watching that scene now and she definitely has a screw loose. Why would you tickle a kid then slap him cos he was obviously going to laugh and why ask your fifteen yr old son to get into bed with you, very very wrong. She also gives him rows for reading dirty books which all boys do, slapping him for having magazines when she is a complete slut. Sleeping with that disgusting pig who I can't stand, letting him punch her son so he is bleeding, havn sex with the door open so Norman can hear them, no consideration for h sons feelings. No wonder he flipped and killed the bitch, she deserved it the slag.
Yeah his mothers antics with him was totally inappropriate. A mum should never get her son to put water on her legs or touch her like that. She also struts about in her nighty and she's a big boobed woman so she should cover up. She also has sex openly with Chet so Norman can hear, totally inappropriate with a 15 yr old son who is hitting maturity.
No no no, mrs spool was not his mother. Did u miss psycho three?? It was explained that mrs spool was in love with Norman's dad, who was with Norma. So mrs spool kidnapped Norman when he was a baby and murdered his father, she got locked up and norma got Norman back. She was his real mum.
I didn't understand why in this his father died from bees but in psycho three, they say he was murdered by mrs spool, Norma's sister and Norman's aunt.
I don't know if any of the sequels are supposed to be canon to eachother, but in Psycho 3, it was revealed that Mrs. Spool was not his bio mother, she had kidnapped him.
But in #4 they never really refer to the victims from 2 and 3, so I don't know if the universe of #4 only sticks to the #1 story and just skips over 2 and 3.
