Problem Child 2 vs Freddy Got Fingered

I was one of the few who appreciated FGF on its release and I recently read an article discussing how the movie is being viewed in a different light a decade and a half later.

I was also a big fan of PC2 as a kid and it occurred to me recently that this is one of the few movies that shares the same anarchistic spirit as FGF. The Problem Child sequel abandons every last shred of pretense of having a meaningful storyline and character development in favour of absurd and often disgusting humour. Both movies are completely non formulaic and the plots basically exist to string together the various scenes and set pieces.

Of course critics slated both movies as bottom of the barrel trash which I think misses the point. Sometimes something is so stupid that it actually becomes quite clever. In an industry that often takes itself very seriously I think it's great movies such as PC2 and FGF exist to remind us how absurd life can be.
