The replacements??????
Did anyone think that there were a lot of stuff similar to the replacements in this movie?

shareI sure did, Sting. I saw the Replacements first, then Necessary Roughness. When I realized that Necessary Roughness preceded the Replacements by about 9 years, I had to concede that it was the Replacements that was similar. They both have different stories to tell. Having seen both, I do like the Replacements better.
shareit's the other way around. This came first, in 91, the Replacements is basically a remake of this.
I saw this back when it first came out on video and I just saw the Replacements tonight. Well not all of it but about half, on tv. Replacements is definetly a remake of this.
Despite having a similar plot line, it is not a remake, a remake would have the same characters or atleast the same team. The Replacements is about a fake professional footbal team, this is abouta fake college team.
The similarities are
-Guys plaing on a team who normally would never make the cut
-Washed up quarterback who was once great...except in N.R. the QB is a lot older and was great in HS.
-A coach who was given a second chance
-A bar fight
I think Necessary Roughness is much better, and a lot more original. It has beter music (Bill Conti, better characters, and although a stretch an easier to believe story.
The Replacements used popular songs from the late 90s from Lit and The Walflowers and lacked an orignal score, had a stupid narration by Gene Hackmen at the end and pretty much ripped off most other football movies.
Wolverines
I saw this movie when it came out in 1991 with a good friend of mine at the movie theater and I have to agree with you because The Replacements is a remake of this movie.
I even went to the movies to see The Replacements in 2000. It was good as well and seemed to be a remake of Necessary Roughness.

Yes, they are similar. One big difference, though. This movie is awesome. The Replacements is horrendous.
Not that this film had the most realistic football in it, but the action in The Replacements is a joke.
The screenplay and acting are better in Necessary Roughness as well. The chick was hotter in The Replacements, so that's something.
I usually like football movies. But many share certain commonalities.
shareYeah the Replacements is definitely a rip off of Necessary Roughness. NR is much better, though, IMO. Kathy Ireland even trumps the stripper cheerleaders.
