Just saw this movie for the first time today.

All in all, I liked it. It was cute. I still can't believe Thomas J had to die that was too sad :(

Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, people die and we have to learn how to deal with it like Vada did. The entire point of the film was her having to confront her fear of death and her being able to get her father to talk to her without having to pretend she’s dying to get his attention.

I saw this the year it came out. I had just moved and lost a best friend who was now states away. I was expecting a comedy when I saw this. I bawled my eyes out when Thomas J passed. It still gets me every time. As an adult I think it’s a great coming of age movie. I showed it to my kids when they were old enough.

I remember when this movie came out it was a phenomenon. It was just one of those movies that come along from time to time where everyone's seen it and people are talking about it, especially younger people.

I did not cry when I watched the movie in 1991. If I watched it today for the first time I probably would. I guess I'm more sentimental now in my older age.

I rewatched it a few years ago and it held up pretty well. It's kind of strange how both of the young stars went on to have weird careers, with Anna disappearing from the industry for a long stretch and Macaulay burning out in the mid-90s.

I actually finally saw it all the way through today. Previously I had only seen certain bits of it.
