the film came out in a 1.33 standard format meaning 'full frame', which is what we see on the dvd release, so why wasn't it released in widescreen in the 1.85 format in theaters? at least i think it was in that format for u.s theaters, or in 2.35. i guess when the movie was filmed it was shot in standard and that's how the director intended it to be shown.
shareThe film was shot in 1.85:1, was reformatted to fit 4:3 screens for home media releases. The UK DVD uses a more open matte transfer that is 1.78:1, but the Blu-Ray release in America uses the theatrical ratio of '85. I do not know why there are three aspect ratios for this film.
