Dani and Court's last conversation

I wish they had a better last scene together. There wasnt any closure...anyone else with me on this?

~ Yeah. I see what you mean. It could've been better. Court totally agnored Dani when she was talking to him. I thought he was a jerk for that.

He was, but he was also uncomfortable and didn't know how to handle the situation. He knew she liked him for more than a friend, but now he had been with Maureen and was pursuing a relationship with her.

I really think Maureen has been unfairly maligned by many (including Dani.) Court was not interested in Dani as more than a friend, and sooner or later he would have met someone and started dating her. That it was Dani's own sister gave it a special sting, but nobody kept Court from Dani. He just wasn't interested in her that way. Once he met someone special he knew he couldn't keep avoiding the issue, which is why he gave Dani the silent treatment in that scene. Not the best way to handle it, but that's often what men do -- be the jerk and hope the woman decides on her own she's no longer interested.

Court not interested in Dani? Are you serious? Didn't you see the looks he gave her? Don't you remember the scene at the swimming hole? What Court said later about Dani losing her cherry? There was only a 3 year difference but Dani was still a minor. When Maureen came along ... Well, she was older.
You're right that Court didn't know how best to handle the situation - I think his feelings for Dani scared him, so he avoided her as best as he could.
If he had lived he would have ended up with Dani when Maureen went away to college.

Yes, he liked Dani as a person and was sexually attracted to her as an attractive member of the opposite sex, as any red-blooded teen boy would be. That's not the same as actually being interested in Dani for a relationship. When he met Maureen, they had a true connection. He wanted a relationship and future with Maureen, not just sex.

And boys/men have a hard time being upfront to girls/women when they aren't interested. That's pretty universally true and doesn't indicate that he had feelings for her. It's just a difficult thing to reject someone to their face.

If he had lived he would have ended up with Dani when Maureen went away to college.

He did say "don't love me now" - as in, you can love me later.

yeah, that "dont love me now" made me kindof think... I dont believe Court and Maureen were in love; maybe that was because there really was no chemistry between the actors and you hardly saw them together- just a kiss then "oh this is so wonderful" and sex. whatever i dont buy it... in any case, ive always believed he had feelings for dani and was ashamed of them... i do think that in the end, Dani and Court may have ended up together- thats just my two cents

That's the point. You just never know when a conversation with someone you love is going to be your last.

Or if that death would be so horrible.

I agree but I think that was on purpose to make his death more powerful. People were expecting them to make up like they had after every other fight, but they never had a chance he was just taken from her.

If in fact this movie is based on screenwriter, Jenny Wingfield's autobiography of her childhood, then I am sure she would have preferred to have had a better last conversation with the young man. I think people are forgetting that this is noted to be an autobiography rather than a made-up story for movies. Maybe, things were added for drama, I have yet to read the book, but it must not have been too far off for them to want to have made a movie out of it.
I, myself, liked the movie just the way it is, the first time I saw it when it first came out on video, before I even knew it was based on reality. The fact that is based on an autobiography, makes it much more hauntingly beautiful.
