Court was an ass hole

I wanted to run him over with a tractor when Dani was talking to him and he was ignoring her in that one scene.

Agreed! He was so horrible to her. He should've just told her straight that he wasn't interested anymore. Or not kissed her in the first place considering he had so many reservations. He gave her reasons to hope. He lead her on. She even told him she loved him! He was not a nice guy really. If he suddenly stopped loving Maureen, for whatever reason, he probably would've handled it in the exact same, cowardly, horrid way.

I don't know about him getting run over by a tractor, but he certainly deserved to be taught a lesson about treating people with respect! Especially when he was hugely to blame for Dani's feelings.

Poor Dani, I wonder if a tiny bit of her felt satiated when he died. So Maureen couldn't have him either.

She was only 14, I think she really cared but realized she still had a lot of growing up to do. The boy knew this maybe if he had not died, and it didn't work out with her sister years down the road. Who knows what would have happened.

It was his way of telling her he wasn't interested in her romantically. I agree he should've just told her that he merely wanted to be friends because she was too young for him (not to mention he was in love with her older sister), but half the time people opt to communicate by giving the cold shoulder. It happens all the time and not just in romantic situations. For instance, if you're not wanted at an assembly any long the pastor & wife will often just ignore you until you leave. They won't tell you, they'll just give you the cold shoulder. It's similar with work situations and even relatives.

If adults regularly practice this, I say give Court a break; he was only 17 and under much pressure with the farm.
