It seems funny seeing (albeit a very youn) John and Charlie from 2 1/2 men in it as I kept expecting to see the little fat kid to pop up every where even though this was out years ago it is just that I probably now associate them more so with their television series

also the fact that Charlie plays the Piano in the movie is that a reference from 2 1/2 men as he writes jingles on the Piano??? (I know it is a lame link but I thought what the hey)

I do realise that the Kid wasn't born I was just stating that watching this again after seeing 2 1/2 men It would have seemed natural on the Other side of the coin Ryan stiles was also in both as well albeit very briefly in Hot shots but a bigger (and very funny) role in the sequel.

I noticed the piano-playing Charlie Sheen parallel too, but I think it's just a coincedence. Chuck Lorre, who created 2 1/2 men, was a musician in real life, and Charlie's character is loosely based on him. As far as I know, Chuck Lorre was not involved with Hot Shots.

Watching Hot Shots on the TV right now. This is the first time I've watched it where I realised it was John playing that character. Never made the connection before now.

They should have referenced Hot Shots in Two and a Half Men.
